Title: Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone
Published: July 5, 2012
My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Synopsis
An arresting un-coming-of-age
story, from a breathtaking talent
Becca has always longed to break
free from her small, backwater hometown. But the discovery of an unidentified
dead girl on the side of a dirt road sends the town--and Becca--into a
tailspin. Unable to make sense of the violence of the outside world creeping
into her backyard, Becca finds herself retreating inward, paralyzed from moving
forward for the first time in her life.
Short chapters detailing the last
days of Amelia Anne Richardson's life are intercut with Becca's own summer as
the parallel stories of two young women struggling with self-identity and
relationships on the edge twist the reader closer and closer to the truth about
Amelia's death.
READ MORE FOR THE ACTUAL REVIEW
So I finished this half an hour
ago, it was an okay book for me; it’s neither that good nor bad. And there are
some things in this book that bothers me a lot, I think the characters and the
unnecessary scenes that don’t even go well with the storyline. Especially that
scene where the teenage boy was killed because of his jump from the lake, I
don’t really understand why she even included that.
Let’s talk about the main
character in the book, Becca. This is the first time I hated a character, and
the bad thing is, it’s a main character. I mean, from her point of view I
really think that she’s a smart person but as the story goes she became dull,
there’s no character development, I can’t even connect with her. Unlike Amelia,
I really like her part in this book even though it’s only a few. I was
devastated at what happened to her, such a shame. Her character deserves more,
she’s an ambitious one. If only I can swap Becca and Amelia’s fates.
Oh, and the town where Becca
lives sounds pretty creepy. The way she describes it made me shiver, it’s like
all of the people living there don’t have any dreams, gossiping about deaths
for months. They’re like soulless people who just exist, who would want to live
like that? I don’t. I like how Kate wrote the town’s history, it felt real.
Although I really thought that
this book is too lengthy for that conclusion. I don’t know what to feel about
the ending, still mixed feelings about it. And lastly I didn’t get that part on
why the people in her town are so obsessed on any news that involves deaths; I
wish she explained that a bit more.
Well, if you’re a fan of mystery
or crime novels you should try reading this; it might get your attention. I’m
not that satisfied with the book but like I said, it was okay. Though I’m still
waiting for her new book entitled, “Inland” I think it’s much better than this.
The synopsis of that book really grabbed my interest!
