Title: Angelfall
Published: May 21, 2011
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Synopsis
It's been six weeks since angels
of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the
day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away
with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do
anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal
with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies
broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he
finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved
teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and
twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival.
Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where
she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy
of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
Review
“I never thought about it before, but I'm
proud to be human. We're ever so flawed. We're frail, confused, violent, and we
struggle with so many issues. But all in all, I'm proud to be a Daughter of
Man.”

I’ve learned this book because of
a friend; she told me that this book is really good and enjoyable to read. So
basically I checked the book on Goodreads and based on what I’ve seen, a lot of
people really liked it, but I’m still not sure if I will going to read it
because the first time I tried reading a book about angels, it didn’t turned
out well. I got bored, to the point that I gave up the book while in the middle
of it. But the other day I’m out of books to read so I gave it a shot.
Susan Ee’s Angelfall is an entertaining book;
it is a fast paced story where you don’t realize that you’re already reading it
in 5 straight hours (I didn’t expect it to be that good!). I’m really surprised
on how it turned out; I have no regret on reading it, thank God I did. I have
been searching a book like this for a year, a novel relating to angels and have
some actions in it, not just romance.
This novel is literally a “Heart-pumping
Novel” with its riveting scenes, the flow of the story is blunt, I think it
doesn’t have any filler in the story, and I am satisfied with the action part
in the book. I pictured it very clearly in my head. I think the author didn’t
want to tease her readers so that’s why she written it like that.
Now, now. Can we appreciate how
sassy are the characters in this book? These two characters actually felt real
to me in some point. Their conversations are hilarious:
“I never kid about my warrior demigod status."
"Oh. My. God." I lower my voice, having forgotten to whisper.
"You are nothing but a bird with an attitude. Okay, so you have a few
muscles, I’ll grant you that. But you know, a bird is nothing but a barely
evolved lizard. That’s what you are.”
Then this,
“Here, I’ll show you how to use it. Let me see your foot.”
“That’s a pretty intimate demand in the angel world. It usually takes
dinner, some wine, and sparkling conversation for me to give up my feet.”
Oh wait, I forgot to tell who
they are. They are the monkey and the bird a.k.a Penryn and Raffe.
Penryn is this teenage girl who
lost her sister and finding a way how to find her, she’s tough and wise. Female
heroine like her is really my type, because she can fight and survive. She
somehow reminds me of June from Legend and Cassie from The 5th Wave.
Then here comes Raffe, short for
Raphael. He is one of the angels, the angels who started the apocalypse, and
the angels who ruined everything. But one day he became acquainted with a
mundane. I don’t know but whenever he’s with Penryn everything becomes
perfectly fine, they are a good pair and his humour is not that corny, it
actually made me laugh.
To sum it up, I truly enjoyed the
whole book, and I’m surprised that there is no dull moment. Her writing
fascinates me and amazes me at the same time. Watcha waiting for? Go read it
now! Like right now. I’m so going to buy the print editions of these series
soon! So thrilled to read the sequel later! Yosh!
